( s o o n ) is an independent private gallery space
showcasing up-and-coming talent, from within and outside our Belgian borders.
Situated in a duplex apartment on the 13th floor of the Riverside Tower, a brutalist gem by renowned architects Léon Stynen and Paul De Meyer overlooking the river, the rich cultural city of Antwerp and the harbour.
Locating the gallery in a residential home provides a unique setting for artists to show
their work and allows the audience to spend more time than usual in the gallery,
fully absorbing the creative atmosphere.
The artistic vision of the gallery is not fixed and will evolve over time and with experience gained. We will look into the possibility of residencies in the future.
The duplex is the last original duplex in the tower.
making it a proper architectural time capsule.
Looking froward to welcome you here in Antwerp ( s o o n ) !

During Antwerp Art Weekend, we are proud to present a very special solo exhibition by Amsterdam-based artist Jitske Schols, titled CHANGING STATES.
Schols' work is dedicated to telling ‘HERstories’—stories of women that have been forgotten or left untold—restoring them to our collective memory. Her practice offers a powerful counterbalance to the dominant male-centered narratives found in traditional ‘HIStory’. With a deeply intersectional lens, she explores how race, class, gender, and other identities have shaped these women’s lives and legacies.
Known for her long-term, research-driven projects, Schols delves into the complex identities of her subjects, uncovering the many layers that inform her evocative series of paintings. These works give voice to women whose stories have long been silent.
For her solo exhibition in Antwerp, Schols drew inspiration from the extraordinary yet little-known life of Elli Kruithof—an accomplished interior designer who later became a theologian. Some may recognise the name, as Elli was the sister of renowned philosopher Jaap Kruithof. Yet, very few people actually know Elli Kruithof. Could it be her radical career change after her split from her architect husband Raymond Goovaerts? Or was it the values instilled in her by her devout Protestant parents? You might or you might not discover the answers to these questions, but you will certainly get to know Elli a bit better through Jitske Schols’ artworks.
Schols’ paintings are not literal depictions of the past, but rather interpretations infused with her own memories, emotions, and experiences.
'These women are not muses, but mentors.
Every painting is a conversation with them' - Jitske Schols

( s o o n ) duplex | architectural time capsule
Welcome to ( s o o n ) duplex!
This spacious 2-bedroom flat is the last original duplex in the magnificent brutalist gem, Riverside Tower (1972), designed by renowned Belgian architects Leon Stynen and Paul De Meyer. In 2022 the building celebrated its 50th birthday and this milestone was marked by the publication of a book by architectural historian and architect Marc Dubois: ‘Riverside Tower Antwerpen, Iconische woontoren | Modern erfgoed’. Unfortunately the book is sold out in most bookstores.
Besides being an architectural treasure and a fantastic home to live in, the duplex offers breathtaking views over the city of Antwerp and the harbour.
